In Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, unsafe sidewalks and limited green space affect how residents move through daily life. The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro's Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, a winner of the Healthy Cities Challenge, used tactical urbanism – small, community-designed changes to streets and public spaces – to create solutions together with residents. The project shows how participation can reshape a neighbourhood, one intervention at a time.
